On the road by 6:15 am (alarm went off at 4). We started too late to beat the Scottsdale rush hour traffic, so we went through Payson, which is 2 lane highway part of the way until you pick up I40 at Holbrook.
Did you know there is a windmill farm outside of Holbrook? I think it is part of the Navajo Nation. Somewhere Henry Waxman is smiling. I wish he would choke on his stupid little bowtie. But I digress. The top photo is of the windmill farm and the photo below is of one of the blades - it's HUGE! It looks like a fusillage (did I spell that correctly?).
The weather was sunny & clear until we got on the other side of Albuquerque. Then it got interesting. The land unfurls for miles once you get past Albuquerque. High desert, few trees. There were storms all around us. It rained buckets for about 5 minutes - hard enough to clean all the smushed bugs off the windshield, then it was sunny again.
We pulled into an RV Park in Santa Rosa New Mexico around 5 pm. JACKPOT! Pullthrough space (VERY important) - 50 amps - we can run the a/c and the microwave at the same time - a dog park AND a dog walk trail. Best of all, we had a dinner of bbq chicken, baby back ribs, beef brisket, coleslaw, corn and peach cobbler a la mode DELIVERED TO OUR 5TH WHEEL for a measly $20.
We were graced with 2 rainbows, one during, one after dinner when I was walking the dogs. You are closer to nature when you rv and that's one of the reasons we love it so.
Don't know where we will end up tomorrow night. You'll have to check in and see!
